God's Mighty Little Bird

A great photographer:internet

*

I am thankful that in our region of the USA we are able to enjoy Ruby-throated Humming birds; although we have scene different hummingbirds when we were out west in Yellowstone and Rocky Mountains.

Ruby’s migrate from the Gulf of Mexico 18 to 20 hours straight headed north with some ending up in southern Canada. They fly more than 1,200 miles with out a break.

Another great photographer. A spectacular shot in this birdbath fountain:internet

There are 340 species of hummingbirds in the Americas migrating north to Canada and south to the Andes of South America. Only 17 species are found in North America!

When they migrate they can be found flying in groups called "charms".

Hummingbirds have exceptional eye sight.

Their speed when flying is 30 to 45 miles per hour.

Hummers can fly in any direction and are the only bird capable of sustained hovering.

They can be very competitive while feeding so you can often watch repeated high speed chases with each other as they eat all day long.

Humming Birds have a lifespan of 3 to 5 years.

They lay two tiny eggs (I do not know if they have more than one brood.)

Their hearts are powerful beating as fast as 1,260 beats per minute; while resting they take 250 breaths per minute!

I am so very thankful my father instilled in me a joy of every bird, with the Ruby, my mother's favorite.

LORD, have mercy! Help us!

Memorial Day: Mourn and Honor the Fallen

-Kinsman
*
Memorial Day is a U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May to mourn and honor all military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Originally known as "Decoration Day," the tradition began shortly after the Civil War as a time for communities to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers, wreaths, and flags.
*

Memorial Day vs. Veterans Day: Memorial Day is dedicated specifically to honoring those who died in military service.

Veterans Day (observed on November 11) celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, living and dead.

National Moment of Remembrance: At 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, Americans are encouraged to pause for one minute of silence to remember and honor the fallen.

Traditions: Many Americans observe the day by visiting cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers place small American flags on the graves of service members in national cemeteries.

Flowers for the Fallen

-Jim Rickards' Strategic Intelligence; "Our Hearts Were Touched With Fire"
*
..."(Oliver Wendell, Jr.) Holmes made a seismic point, something that still resonates today, particularly with veterans:

“The generation that carried on the war has been set apart by its experience. Through our great good fortune, in our youth our hearts were touched with fire. It was given to us to learn at the outset that life is a profound and passionate thing.

“We have learned that whether a man accepts from Fortune her spade, and will look downward and dig, or from Aspiration her axe and cord, and will scale the ice, the one and only success which it is his to command is to bring to his work a mighty heart.

“Such hearts — ah me, how many! — were stilled twenty years ago; and to us who remain behind is left this day of memories.”

Holmes spoke to a country still reckoning with the aftermath of terrible conflict. In our own way, America is living through unsettled times again.

Rereading Holmes’s speech 142 years later, its sadness, tragic loss and passion for fallen friends still echo like a knell."

Acknowledge God's Hand at Work in our Sorrows

-Alistair Begg devotion photo

*

Below is a section of the devotion for today from Truth for Life.

It is titled, A Theology of Grief, by Alistair Begg.

*Please read the whole devotion to understand what is happening.*

..."Naomi’s honest expression of emotion is matched by her theology.

She doesn’t attribute all that has happened to chance, but she acknowledges God’s hand at work.

She declares that God is right in the midst of her pain; she calls Him Shaddai, “Almighty,” the providing, protecting God.

What does Shaddai mean?

It’s the characteristic of God that means He’s at His best when we are at our worst.

Naomi had gone through famine, loss, bereavement, doubts, and goodbyes—but because she knew God as Shaddai, she could leave the explanation and the responsibility for such bitter trials with Him."...

"Shaddai" -I knew this word ment, God Almighty, but the real significance for me came out in this very devotion:

"It’s the characteristic of God that means He’s at His best when we are at our worst."

This really was a powerful thing for me to learn. I personally now know that the LORD God Almighty is at His best for us in our greatest losses! I can leave the explanation and the responsibility for our bitter trials with our great and loving Shaddai!

PRAISE the LORD!!!

Three Essentials

-Bleeding Heart

Philosophy Essentials

"When you strip philosophy down to its essentials,
it’s really about three things:
whether God exists,
whether we have souls,
and whether we are truly free.

Together, they answer the question of how we should live.

If we are free, if God exists, and if there is something beyond this life, then our choices carry real weight.

Human reason seems built for this purpose — not just to understand the world, but to guide our moral behavior."

-Michael Smith, A Civilization Losing Its Moral Compass
