He who finds a wife finds a good thing

Proverbs 18:22
"He who finds a wife finds a good thing
And obtains favor from the Lord."

Waiting or looking for a mate:

Never date a non-Christian
Never rush
Never settle
Never push
Always respect
Always be discerning
Always be alert for Red Flags
Be respectful of parents
NEVER allow parents to manipulate and control either of you
Always be humbly in prayer with the LORD

Jill,

What an edifying word!

Since the meme seemed to be geared for the young men... this is for the young ladies:

While there is nothing wrong with being attracted to a handsome man, good looks and a strong athletic body will both age. So make sure he is actually a *gentleman*, with a loyal and humble heart that will be attractive your whole lives. Likewise, money or power shouldn't be the focus, but integrity of character and a good work ethic are the right qualities to pursue in a potential husband. Also, know the difference between God-ward confidence vs. arrogance. Both types of men can quote the Bible quite well. But the latter isn't who you want to marry. I'm sure I could say more, but that's a good start.

Added to your "waiting or looking for a mate" list:

NEVER allow church leaders to push, sway, manipulate or control either of you.

And especially for the young ladies, look for red flags of domineering/abusive male behavior. Because women are in the role of submission, it is harder on women in an abusive situation, especially if you are in a church that has a distorted view of male headship.

-Carolyn, grateful for her sweet and godly husband!
