Train up a child

"Little children, headache; big children heartache"

An Italian Proverb

We raise our children:

"Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6

This is a principle from God, but it is not a promise.

Many a parent has lovingly raised up their children in God's truth only to see these same beloved children turn from His truth into some kind of deception.  The world is evil and it pulls and pushes at all of us.

I have heard many mothers complaining about their troubles with their little ones.  For them---they are struggling---not realizing the hardest part is coming, and even more difficult is when their children are adults.  This is when we can only watch when they choose poorly.

Prayer.

"I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry."
Psalm 40:1

As a parent, how do we wait patiently?  How can we wait calm and patient when our treasured child has chosen a path of destruction?  How can we wait calmly when we can't do anything to help them/stop them?

In Psalm 40:1 the word, "cry" [here] in Hebrew means "scream" (I was told this).

How appropriate!  When we are waiting patiently for some agony to turn around, we are usually in great anxiety and, at least in our heads, we are screaming, shouting for the LORD to hear and save!

Waiting.

Sisters in the LORD... are you waiting?   Is there a wayward child in your life?  Is there a wayward loved one?  Are you anxious and frustrated and then confused because your "waiting" doesn't seem to be patient?

"Waiting and patient" don't seem to go together.   I encourage you to continue.  Continue to draw near to the LORD who is our comfort.  As your time of waiting ebbs and flows you will learn from Him to wait more calmly.

Waiting is VERY active.  I do not mean "worrying", but waiting.  We wait in the LORD with great expectations because we KNOW He hears our cries.

Waiting is always full and busy in our heads.  We think and pray and anticipate---no matter how long we wait.  As we learn to wait on Him our waiting becomes more patient. Somehow He works in us, frail and broken us.  We begin to rely on Him more and more. We begin to "see" that our waiting on our "waywards"  is more as He views waiting patiently.  We become more like Christ.

Precious sisters...continue to pray, waiting patiently for the LORD our God is surely hearing our cries, our screams!

*
Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,saying,

“In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man. There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me legal protection from my opponent.’

For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself,

‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect man,yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.’”

And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says;

now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them?

I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly.

However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:1-8

Seasons of Life

"I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus,
who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:

Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season;
reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction."...
2 Timothy 4

You're Always a Role Model to Somebody #10

*
"Unless the LORD builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the LORD guards the city,
The watchman keeps awakes in vain.
It is vain for you to rise up early,
To retire late,
To eat the bread of painful labors;
For He gives His beloved even in his sleep."

Psalm 127:1-2

Do not be deceived:

“Bad company corrupts good morals.”
1 Corinthians 15:33

"Associate yourself with people of good quality,
for it is better to be alone than in bad company."
Booker T. Washington

Choices

Beloved sisters in the LORD...we all have had choices in our every day lives, from our young childhood until it is our time to go to be with the LORD.

We are on our walk with the LORD every day as we draw closer to Him.

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."
James 4:8a

Our desire and joy should be to obey Him in all ways.

If I had time I would write out all the choices I could think of and never find an end to it. But I do not have time for this, so I will only begin our contemplating on this subject:

How do we treat people no matter how good or bad they have been to us?

--our mother, our father...family, friends, co-workers, our enemies...

"Children, obey your parents in the LORD, for this is right.  Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth."...
Ephesians 6

...."But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head."....
Romans 12

How do we spend our free time?

--are we obsessed in our hobbies,  do we accomplish what is necessary to keep our homes in working order, do we spend quality time with our families, have we allowed our workouts to be our life,  do we glorify God for the joy He weaves into our lives....

"...therefore, be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil...."
Ephesians 5

"...sees good in [our labor] --it is the gift of God..."
Ecclesiastes 3

How do we use the electronics and media in our lives?

--Do we limit our times on phones, emails, texts, games, internet, TV... as we surely limit our children's time on them, are we careful what we read-see-hear,  are our number of "friends" only on Facebook, when our real friends never hear or see us...

"Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life."
Proverbs 4:23

Are we careful with whom we spend time?

--are our friends bringing us deeper into sins, do our friends encourage us to treat others badly, do our friends point us to the One who has the real answers...

Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."
1 Corinthians 15:33

Do we seek to spend quality, quiet, calm time with the LORD?

--is our heart's desire to find a time to sit with him, do we contemplate His word, do we search for scriptures on subjects which come up every day, do we allow Him to carry our burdens, do we pray more than "rocket prayers" throughout our day....

"How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD.  How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, who seek Him with all their heart."......
Psalm 119

Choices...every day we have choices to make.

Every day we can turn around and make right choices for ourselves, for the LORD.

How to Handle Your Sin

With two different messages, Kevin DeYoung, April 4, 2014, teaches us how to handle our sins in the Biblical way.  An excellent post!

You may have already learned this lesson, or maybe you need a refresher course, or you will certainly be able to come alongside someone you know with this advice.

You will be blessed by:

What do you do with your sin?

Do you want true, lasting comfort for your body and your soul?

Do you need what you can’t supply?

Are too lost to find yourself?

Do you want to cope or do you want to be saved?

Included are important Biblical thoughts:

“I am not my own.

I was bought with a price.

I am not in charge.

I am not the purpose of my life.

I will not find the “true” me.

I cannot create a better me.

I need a new me.”

Kevin DeYoung's post is short and to the point. I will definitely be carrying a reference copy of it with me for any future encounters with people.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Psalm 51:17

The Lord God is my Deliverer!

“ Blessed be the Lord,
who daily bears our burden,
the God who is our salvation.
God is to us a God of deliverances;
And to YHWH the Lord
belong escapes from death."
Psalm 68:19-20
