Your post made me think of a lot of the wisdom in Proverbs. One in particular:

Prov 13 NAS
20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm.

Also the Psalms - especially Ps 1.

I bet many a heartache could be spared if we all were very careful in our close associations!
