So we naively choose a wolverine, and his little cohort sister
because they were so sweet! A year and a half later, we are
only partly crazy, receive a little more sleep than before, but
still under their cute-factor spell.

Reminds me of the joke, what's the difference between cats and dogs?
You feed and love your dog, and your dog thinks "you must be 'god'". Your dog loyally adores you.
You feed and love your cat, and your cat thinks "I must be 'god'". Your cat expects your worship.
