The Lovingkindness of the LORD

-Alister Begg

*

"I will sing of the lovingkindness of the Lord forever;

To all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth.

The heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord;

Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones."

Trees and their Fruit

Known by Their Fruit

"No good tree bears bad fruit,

nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit,

for each tree is known by its own fruit."

Luke 6:43-44

Students will always reflect the instruction of their teachers. No matter how far a student may excel beyond his or her teacher’s abilities, they will always be indebted to the guidance that was given.

When Jesus spoke of trees and their fruit, it was with an eye to the spiritual leaders of His day. In making His point, He gave us a warning: namely, not to choose the wrong teacher. And how are we to discern between good and bad teachers? Jesus says it’s by their fruit—the results that follow their teachings and actions. ...

How Firm a Foundation

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
is laid for your faith in God's excellent Word!
What more can be said than to you God hath said,
to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

"Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
for I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen thee, help thee,
and cause thee to stand,
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

"When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
the rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
for I will be near thee, thy troubles to bless,
and sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

 "When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
my grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
the flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

"The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I'll never, no, never, no, never forsake."

His Lovingkindness is Everlasting

-internet
*

"Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.

Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.

Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.

For the Lord is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations."

"Jesus exalts what the world despises and rejects what it admires."

-Alistair Begg 9/2026
Admitting We are Poor

*

17-18  ..."Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place; and there was a large crowd of His disciples, and a great throng of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being cured.

19  And all the people were trying to touch Him, for power was coming from Him and healing them all.

20  And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

21  Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

22  Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.

23  Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets.

24  But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full.

25  Woe to you who are well-fed now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.

26  Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.

27-28  But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

29  Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.

30  Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.

31  Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.

32  If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

33  If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.

34  If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.

35  But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.

36  Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful..."

REGRET: Worrying about the past

-Illinois country road
*
 "The past cannot be recalled and you can do nothing about it.

You can sit down and be miserable and you can go round and round in circles of regret for the rest of your life, but it will make no difference to what you have done...We must never for a second worry about anything that cannot be affected or changed by us.

It is a waste of energy."

Weather Disasters and Education Disasters

"The Real Purpose of Schools

Schools exist for the education of children.

Schools do not exist to provide ironclad jobs for teachers, billions of dollars in union dues for teachers unions, monopolies for educational bureaucracies, a guaranteed market for teachers college degrees or a captive audience for indoctrinators."

25 years ago, 911--May we all aspire to emulate this man's courage and patriotism

Rick Rescorla
The Hero Who Saved 2,700 Lives on 911

*

"...thousands of people were already moving because Rescorla had not waited for permission. He kept them moving. He kept them off the elevators.

...

Those who were guided to safety by Rescorla reported that he sang while he did it. His songs were familiar to him. He’d sung them in crisis before, in the Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam in November 1965.

At that time, he was a young United States Army lieutenant from Hayle, Cornwall, England. He walked the perimeter of the U.S. camp, under fire, singing Cornish hymns calmly to his platoon into the night. One was based on the Welsh song “Men of Harlech”:

Men of Cornwall stop your dreaming;

Can't you see their spearpoints gleaming?

See their warriors' pennants streaming

To this battlefield.

Men of Cornwall stand ye steady;

It cannot be ever said ye

for the battle were not ready;

Stand and never yield!

*

...A bullhorn in a crowded stairway is a crude instrument, but it was enough. The people who had resented the drills now found they already knew the steps.

...

Thirteen of the firm’s employees and contractors would not survive the day. Nearly twenty-seven hundred others would, because a man with a bullhorn had willed them to.

...

Rescorla was born Cyril Richard Rescorla on the Cornish coast in 1939. American soldiers trained in his hometown before the Normandy invasion. Rescorla watched them train and decided he would wear a uniform. He joined the British Army, served in Cyprus, then wore a Rhodesian police uniform. In 1963, he came to Brooklyn, lived in a hostel, and enlisted in the United States Army – still a British subject. He took the soldier’s oath and became a U.S. citizen a few years later.

Rick Rescorla went to Fort Dix, then Officer Candidate School, then Vietnam. In November 1965, at Ia Drang, he walked into the first major battle between the U.S. Army and the North Vietnamese. During that battle, his picture was taken.

...

Rescorla’s face is dirt-streaked, his shoulders slumped from fatigue, the weight of exhaustion forming his expression. But that photo shows Rescorla just as he would be decades later in a building about to collapse in New York City – determined, moving forward, uphill, and into the fray.

May Rick Rescorla’s spirit never die, and may we all aspire to emulate his courage and patriotism."

Be Thou forever near me!

"O Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend!
I shall not fear the battle,
If Thou art by my side;
Nor wander from the pathway,
If Thou wilt be my Guide.

O Jesus,
Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee,
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be!
And, Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end,
Oh, give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend."
