I have a quiet moment now,
But suddenly I find
that while I have a Mary-heart
I have a Martha-mind.
The things I thought I'd finish with
are springing back to life
like little flames among the brush
of daily cares and strife.
My thoughts seem filled with "brushfires,"
and although I rush and race
as soon as I put out one fire,
another takes its place.
So now I find, when I'm alone
And peace is my desire
My mind's a busy Martha-mind
Tending to one more fire.
O LORD, I know that Martha's hands
are needed, good, and kind.
But in my heart I've one request
grant me a Mary-mind.

Hmmmm...could be this poem was written for me! :0)
How beautiful... I love that poem. I pray for that, too!
Thank you both for your comments. :oD
This poem expresses the need for each of us to evaluate how consumed we can become in everyday life activities.
This life is so full of "next things" to do! It is like the children's story book, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie".....which explains my everyday!! YIKES!
One of my dear elderly lady friends gave this poem to me in a frame. She loves God with all her soul, with her whole being---but can easily be a "martha" also. She is a beautiful example for me of a "Mary".
