Prayers for Prodigals by B.J. Reinhard #7 of 7

I decided to end this prayer series with the card back on the left side to finish with a change.  I hope these prayers have been good suggestions for you in how you can pray for your prodigals.  I know they have helped me, not only in praying, but in right ways of thinking of my prodigals and their situations.

As time goes by and we come closer to the endwe will see more and more prodigals appear among our own families and friends.  Let us not grow weary in praying.

"Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.  So then,  while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."
Galatians 6:9-10

This is my seventh and last
installment from the prayer
card, Prayers for Prodigals,
which has 21 prayer ideas
on how to pray for prodigals:

These Scripture-based prayers are designed to be prayed for any loved one (a son, daughter, grandchild, the child of a friend, or even a spouse or parent) who has strayed from God into a destructive lifestyle. For the sake of clarity, the prayers are written with a son in mind. Please adapt them to fit your situation.

19.  Lord, in this fast-paced world of instant gratification, plant in my son the perseverance he needs to succeed.  Cause him to be still and wait patiently before You.  Help him to rest in Your power.  Establish the work of his hands.
(Ps.37:7; Heb.12:1-3; Ps.90:17)

20.  Turn my son's focus away from himself and onto You.  May he allow Your power to flow through him to others.  Teach him to love others as himself.
(Phil. 2:4; 2Cor.4:7; Mt.22:39)

21.  Cause my son to love You with all his heart, soul, and mind.  May he live all his days in love with and rejoicing in You.
(Mt.22:37; Ps.27:4; Phil.4:4)

I realize you posted this series months ago but I just wanted to thank you for doing so. I have many prodigals in my family that I'm praying for and it does become "wearisome" when there is no obvious impact. Thank you so much for the encouragement to carry on with such important work. May God have mercy on your prodigals. Thanks again.

Thank you, Anonymous, for your poignant comment. I can completely relate to your experience.

We must remember that God works in ways we do not understand and do not necessarily see. Waiting and trusting in God to work in other's lives is our job and it is not inactive. Prayer is very active as you must well know.

Through the years I have heard testimonies from people we know with impossible situations, and yet God was working all the while. Sometimes we need to learn to trust God as we "piggyback" on other's faith and testimonies because through it we can see God hears our cries! Even when we see no end to our circumstances God does not forget our cries.

*Psalm 9 especially verse 12b

I have just come across this page and though I haven't had a chance to jot down these prayers I will be doing so!
I have been praying wholeheartedly and with lots of tears for my 20 year old daughter who is the oldest out of 5 girls through the book by James Banks "Prayers for Prodigals".
Thank you for taking the time to post these prayers based on Scriptures.
I was wondering if this card you posted is available?
I would love to use it as a bookmark and to pray along.
May God bless your ministry!

Precious mother…

I picked this particular card up at another Bible Church a few years ago and I typed out all the prayers for those who I knew would be blessed by it. Maybe you could do that for yourself.

Here is the site which was on the card:
http://www.praymag.com/
Although they re working on it at this time.

I completely understand your broken heart for your wayward 20 year old and I am grieving with you for her. Never give up praying for her! God hears our cries and He does His best work where we can not see it. Your job is to have faith in Him, trust Him, wait for Him even if everything seems hopeless. There is always HOPE because of Him!!

Continue in His word. He is your strength, your comfort. He will be your joy even amidst your agonies.

*Rejoice in Him always; He is near you.*

Philippians 4:4-9

Thank you so much for your encouragement, your support and your heart!
Your response brought me to tears!
I am praying and trusting His will will be done!
I would have to write pages on how God recently worked on my heart, revealed to me the true meaning of forgiveness and how I was able to apply that in my daughter's life! He is so faithful and gracious! It just blows my mind!
Thank you again!
I will wait for the site to get back up and will, with your permission type out those prayers and print it out in a form of a bookmark so I can have it handy with me all the time!
May God's blessings, grace and mercy be yours!

Fellow Mama...crying with you!

I could also take days expressing how the LORD has worked in my situation even though I can not see an end to my agonies. I KNOW the LORD is working because this is who He is. I may not see any work in the way wards, but I have allowed Him to work in me.

Praising the LORD with you!

You certainly have my permission to use any thing on my site~~~I am so thankful to the LORD that you have been encouraged. The LORD gets the glory!

Dear Piper's Wife,

I was wondering if you'd be able to scan the back of the bookmark so I could have all the prayers in a compact form?
I would really appreciate your help!
Still praying for my now 21 year old.
Thank you again for your heart!
Blessings in His Name!

Thank you, J. MacDonald, and all others who continue to be blessed by these "Prayers for Prodigals".

*See my follow-up post on February 28, 2020:

"Let We Broken Ones Be a Beautiful Fragrance to the LORD as We Wait"

"I am blessed and thankful so many of you have been encouraged concerning my posts with Prayers for Prodigals by R.J. Reinhard. All of our prayers are precious in God's sight, but I  sometimes read through "Prayers for Prodigals" as good way to think rightly when praying for my Waywards.

Any one of us can be a Prodigal. We need to pray for ourselves sometimes as well as the others in our lives who are following their own way instead of our LORD God in His truth......"

Very Thankful :o) Jill
